Sometimes, occasions can turn into a day where, instead of you and your partner getting closer, you only move further apart. This is one such story, in which a birthday brought a husband’s truth out in front of his wife. And when she learned of his massive betrayal, she decided to get revenge! Here’s the story of the Robinsons…
The Perfect Wife
Emma Robinson had it all – at least it seemed that way from the outside. The New York City gal had a swanky apartment, a handsome and successful husband, and her dream job as a manager at a construction company.
On paper, Emma had everything, and there was no need for complaints in her life. She was comfortable in her life and had everything going for her. But sometimes, what we see isn’t the reality, and such was the case of Emma and her husband, Dominic.
The Husband
Dominic Robinson was a man who had everything. He was handsome, successful, and the envy of many of the people he encountered.
Dominic worked as a surgeon at one of the best hospitals in the city. He was a dream come true for Emma’s parents, who had wanted a well-settled man exactly like this for their daughter. But sadly, their picture-perfect life was soon going to take a bad turn.
The Love Story
Emma and Dominic first met when they were young. Emma had just graduated from college and was just coming out of a relationship when she met Dominic. Despite the circumstances, the surgeon charmed her, and before she knew it, she was in love.
Emma and Dominic had been together for five years when Dominic popped the question. Years later, the two went on to celebrate their seven-year marriage anniversary, marking what is a great milestone for any couple. Despite their 12-year-long relationship, Emma was feeling the need for more.
A Bigger Family
Emma loved being married to Dominic, but she was feeling the need to be a part of something bigger. Notably, she wanted a bigger family. She felt that there was no point in a good and stable household if kids weren’t a part of it.
With all of this on her mind, Emma was ready to take the plunge and be a mother. However, Dominic wasn’t as ready as Emma to be a father, and something was holding him back from committing to parenthood.
A Career Above All Else
Dominic felt that he wasn’t at the peak of his career, and there was a long way he had to go before he could think about starting a family.
The surgeon wanted much more from his professional life and was waiting for the promotion that would make him the chief of surgery at the hospital. However, Emma’s plans for the future didn’t seem to follow Dominic’s timeline.
A Divergence in Timelines
Emma wasn’t ready to wait for Dominic’s career to be where he wanted before having kids. Instead, she wanted to have them right away, and she had a good reason to be impatient.
She had just turned 33, a number that made her painfully aware that her biological clock was ticking. With every year that passed by, Emma knew her chances of conceiving were becoming lower and lower, and that wasn’t a risk she was ready to take, hence the urgency.
Nobody Budging
However, Dominic wasn’t ready to hear Emma’s reasons for having a baby. He didn’t like the pressure he felt from his wife and thought it was unfair of her to put it on him.
However, Emma wasn’t ready to give up. She continued hoping for the best and believed that the moment the promotion was in Dominic’s hand, he would be on board with her plans. One day, however, everything changed when she noticed some warning signs.
The Warning Signs in the Laundry
It was during laundry one day that everything changed for Emma. While she was busy separating clothes to put them in the washer, she came across one of Dominic’s shirts that immediately grabbed her attention.
The white button-down sported some stains that had Emma looking twice – they were lipstick stains. Even though it might not be a big deal to find lipstick on your husband’s shirt, to Emma, it was – and there was a reason why.
An Aversion to Lipstick
The reason why Emma was instantly suspicious about the lipstick stain was because she hated lipstick and never wore it. Emma believed that lipstick made her lips look weird, and she’d always preferred to go au natural when it came to lip colors.
Hence, it was quite a shock to see the stains on the shirt. Even though she tried to convince herself she was mistaken, Emma knew that something very shady was afoot with Dominic.
The Arguments in Her Head
Emma went back and forth over the incident for the next couple of days, but she couldn’t find a valid solution or explanation for what she’d seen. All she could think about was the stained shirt and the fact that Dominic might be cheating on her.
Even though she tried to argue with herself that it was probably her insecurities, she knew in her heart that the possibility of cheating was high, which is why she decided to talk to her best friend, Jennnifer, about it.
A Best Friend’s Ear
The next day, Emma met her best friend, Jennifer, and laid it all out for her. She told Jennifer about everything, including the stains, and asked what to do. Her best friend’s advice was, to say the least, shocking to Emma.
According to Jennifer, Emma should never ignore what her gut was telling her and stop doubting her own instincts. Jennifer also gave Emma the number of a private detective.
Advice
The detective was actually somebody who had done some work for Jennifer’s aunt before, catching the aunt’s husband having an affair. However, despite the glowing recommendation, Emma laughed and dismissed Jennifer’s suggestions, stating that it was a little too extreme.
However, her best friend wasn’t going to budge, and she slipped the detective’s business card into Emma’s purse, saying that it was a just-in-case thing. Emma, not knowing what else to do, quietly accepted the card.
A Night of Overthinking
Emma kept thinking about what Jennifer had said. She was skeptical about going that far and decided that she had other things to worry about. After all, she was throwing Dominic a birthday party the next day, and the last thing the guests needed was her to throw accusations around.
Emma was quietly mulling all this over as she walked home from the coffee shop when somebody called her name. Hearing the voice, Emma was shocked.
The Ex-Boyfriend Alert
Emma was shocked to turn around and see that the owner of the voice was none other than her ex-boyfriend from college, Rick! Emma was quite familiar with Rick’s tan skin, blue eyes, and dark hair.
Instantly, Emma forgot all about her problems at home and eagerly went to greet Rick. She enquired about Rick, who told her that he’d just transferred to the city after a promotion. But when he asked Emma about herself, Emma found herself stuck back in her problems at home.
A Surprising Invitation
Emma found herself talking and replying to Rick quite fondly, telling him that work was alright. But what came out of her mouth next surprised both of them.
Without meaning to, the married lady found herself inviting Rick for a coffee someday, an invitation that seemed to surprise both of them. Rick, who had last heard that Emma was married, was quite taken aback but accepted the invitation immediately. Ever since they’d broken up in college, he found himself thinking of Emma more often than not.
A Birthday to Plan
The two quickly said goodbye, and soon Emma was back to thinking about her husband and the upcoming birthday party that she had to plan. Emma and Dominic had thought that the best thing to do would be to host a party by inviting all of his colleagues and friends over.
Emma was still mulling through all this when she got home, and Dominic gave her some news that both shocked and infuriated her.
The Other Party Plans
Dominic told Emma that the hospital staff was already planning a second party for him and he’d have to go there for a bit after the house party. He promised that he wouldn’t stay long and he’d only hang around for one or two rounds of beverages.
Emma was shocked to hear how Dominic planned to celebrate his 35th birthday and, despite his assurances, remained a little angry at him. But she knew that she now needed to get some answers – no matter what she had to do to get them.
Placing the Call
Dominic’s actions pushed Emma to do the very thing that she didn’t want to do – go to the extremes and call the private detective Jennifer had told her about. She immediately dialed the number, as the story of the after-party seemed a little too convenient to her.
The next day, Emma was already ready for the party, and she played her part as the hostess to the best of her ability. But she soon noticed Dominic’s strange preoccupation with his guests – or at least one particular guest.
The Special Guest of the Night
Dominic and Emma’s first guest of the night was an attractive lady with brown hair and a statuesque figure. The beautiful lady was unknown to Emma, who was actually pretty good with faces.
However, the same couldn’t be said about her husband, who seemed to know the brunette quite well. Not only was he friendly with her, but it seemed that her husband only had eyes for the mysterious stranger the entire night. Emma felt slighted and neglected as she watched her husband fawn over the brunette throughout the entire party.
The Mystery Deepens
By nature, Emma wasn’t a jealous and insecure woman, but she felt those feelings rise to the surface that day. Even when more guests had arrived, Dominic seemed to be paying exclusive attention to his mystery guest. He laughed at everything that she said and stuck close to her side throughout the night.
Looking at this, Emma thought back to the early days of her own relationship, when Dominic laughed at everything she said. However, the night wasn’t over, and Emma decided that she still had a lot to uncover.
The End of the Night
After a while, Emma found out who the mystery brunette was, and she was shocked. The stranger at the party was none other than Dominic’s boss’s wife – a woman he had no business being so friendly with!
By the end of the night, Emma’s suspicion had reached its peak and, when the party was over, Emma found herself standing in a messy room, contemplating a marriage that might soon end in a messy divorce.
Waiting Time
While Dominic and his colleagues retired to the after-party, Emma decided to tackle the mess at home all alone. All the while, she waited.
Somewhere in the pit of her stomach, she knew that Dominic’s promises of coming back home early were all a lie. As hours passed, her suspicions only became stronger. As she waited for the return of her husband, her phone buzzed, and what was on the screen shook Emma to her very core.

The detective that she had hired to spy on her husband had finally responded, and it was everything that Emma had dreaded. The photos that the detective had sent over showed Dominic and his boss’s wife walking into a hotel – just the two of them.
Emma felt cold; there was no further proof needed to tell her the reality – her husband was having an affair. Her brain spiraled as she questioned everything about their relationship and wondered how Dominic could do this to her.
A Revenge Plot
Emma gasped for air as she tried to think through the panic that was setting in. She knew her marriage was over. Their relationship of 12 years had just come to a screeching halt.

A Phone Call to the Past
Before the next phase of her plan, Emma had a flurry of doubts arise in her. But she squared her shoulders and dialed the number that she never thought she could dial – until now.
When Rick picked up the phone, Emma rushed into her explanation, asking her ex-boyfriend out for a coffee. While Rick was still processing the invitation, Emma giddily dropped the biggest bombshell of all – she’d just left her husband!
A Chance Too Good to Be Missed
To say that Rick was shocked was an understatement, but he was no fool. He’d been thinking about Emma for a very long time, and he wasn’t going to let this opportunity pass him by.
He immediately accepted the invitation, promising to see Emma at 8:00 the next day. He couldn’t believe his luck, that he’d just bumped into Emma the day before and it had led to this!
Planning for the Date
With everything done and out of the way, Emma started to plan for the next phase – her date. Going through her wardrobe, she came across the very dress she had worn with Rick on their very first date.
The body-hugging dress had been a favorite, not just of hers but also of Rick, back in their college days. She knew she couldn’t have found a better outfit to wear to her date with Rick.
A Second Chance at Life
With her husband’s infidelity out in the open, Emma knew that she needed a clean break. The moment she saw the photos from the detective, she knew there were only two options.
The first was to wallow for days in self-pity, feeling sorry for herself. And the second option was to take the road less traveled and settle the scores by taking revenge. Now everybody knew what kind of a man Dominic was. Even though Emma’s picture-perfect life had burned down to ashes, she was happy she had stood up in the end with dignity.
